New directory set to help conserve Cuba's birds
The National Centre for Protected Areas (CNAP, BirdLife in Cuba) has launched an Important Bird Areas (IBAs) directory for Cuba. Áreas Importantes para la Conservación de las Aves en Cuba details 28 IBAs – Cuba's highest priority sites for bird conservation – covering over 2.3 million ha or 21% of Cuban territory. The book was published with financial support from BirdLife International, the British Birdwatching Fair and the Canadian Wildlife Service/Environment Canada. The IBAs support critical populations of globally threatened birds, species with restricted-ranges, and those birds that congregate in significant numbers for breeding, feeding or on and migration.

ukuran tubuh bisa dibilang munggil yaitu 17 cm.burung ini di kenal juga dengan sebutan burung hantu penghuni hutan.
seperti umum nya celepuk dengan kepala dan kaki relatif besar,sayap dan ekor yang berpalang sangat halus .

Deskripsi bentuk;
tinggi lebih kurang 70 cm.sebagian besar burung ini di seliputi bulu warna hitam.corak kepala dan leher jantan kurang lebih berwarna merah karat, sedangkan betina kepala dan leher lebih kearah warna hitam.
Deskripsi suara;
dideskripsikan dengan berbagai cara sebagai nada ketukan parau berulang-ulang,suara ndua nada singkat;erm-er dan kokokokokok.
Kebiasaan;
sendiri,berpasangan,dan berkelompokhingga mencapai 15 ekor, dan dalam kelompok besar berkisar antara 65-70 ekor.
kebanyakan burung ini singgah di pohon kanokopi, kadang-kadang di bawah pohon kanokopi tersebut. biasanya teramati ketika terbang di antara langit biru ,di pohon-pohon buah dan di lebat nya bekas-bekas hutan.
